Challenge Moi: Fruits

I once thought the art of illustrating fruits was quite an easy one. Well, I was dead wrong. For this week's challenge, and by this week I mean two weeks ago 😮since I'm a bit behind, we decided to draw any fruit that came to mind and interpret it into our very own artistic way.

Okay, Karina so what's the deal with this mix? Does it have some personal meaning? Do you love the two and had no other ideas? Well, yeah. I was racking my brain trying to figure out what I could draw that would go with a banana. I tried to conceptualize a parrot coming out of the banana as a weird double meaning of birth. Don't ask. I played with colors, shapes and at some point even thought to scratch the whole project and started fresh, but a huge part of me had just to accept that at that moment, I just had designer's block.

So what do you do when you can't illustrate? Hell, I go out, get some fresh air, play with my daughter or space out in front of a good movie. Sometimes those elements that are missing to make the puzzle work are just on blink away in your day to day activities. As for me, well, the answer was in my lunch: the holy grail of avocados!!! And like that, my mini masterpiece came together, and I was finally able to finish it!

As for the amazing @charivarietelle, here is her take on her experience:

For our 3rd challenge: What inspired you?

_ It was more about using watercolor than about a specific inspiration: I struggle with this technique so I thought doing simple shapes in

repetition would be a good way to train. And I just love lemons ! (and

watermelon are just easy to draw :p)

Were there any elements (lines, color, style..etc) that you struggled with?

_ My main difficulty was the watercolor technique and the amount of water that you need to use...Apart from that, I chose a "simplistic" line to avoid too many challenges at the same time.

How did you feel about the outcome?

_ Given that I am usually really bad with watercolor, I was quite please with the general aspect of this one (even though I still see many

problems with it).

What did you learn from this experience?

_ I think I learned when to "stop". I had the temptation to add other

fruits but I'm glad I didn't . The result is simple but balanced...

All in all, I have to say I was pretty impressed with our outcome and how we always manage to design completely different work. Aside from the challenges being a great way to explore our creativity, It has helped push each other in the direction of learning constantly and improving our technique at a much more rapid pace.
