Overdosing on Inspiration

As we’re two months into the new year, which by the way has literally flown by without a trace, I asked myself a pretty obvious question while scrolling my Instagram.
“Are we overdosing on inspiration?”
First, let’s make it clear. This post is not about being an inspiration hater or a Debbie Downer. It’s merely a small observation I've made and have also fallen victim of. Now, what exactly do I mean by overdosing? Well, I can’t help but have my eyeballs punched in with messages of “love yourself,” “you’re perfect just the way you are,” and my favorite, “love your body” brought to you by a fit half-naked yogi with her butt hanging out.
Let’s bring it back to the non-hater parade. I have nothing against all these messages or those who post them, but quite frankly it’s the fact that the posts might actually be doing the opposite effect. After taking in my daily dose of “you’re so amazing” pie, I honestly feel depleted of just that. Inspiration. It may just be that unconsciously seeing so much “happy” in a picture can make me question if I'm missing something in my life or somehow I'm adulting in the wrong way.
I’m a true believer of actions speak louder than words, and in this sense, maybe it’s just that that is lacking. Maybe more volunteering or getting involved with different groups will do more than merely mocking up a quote and adding some pretty watercolor flowers. So perhaps 2018 can be the year of let’s show less by doing more.
